Kazhanlak is a city located in the centre of Bulgaria, in the region of Stara Zagora. Located on the banks of the river Tundzha, is located at the foot of the Balkans. It is the capital of the oil roses and one of the largest growing areas in Bulgarian of rose. Its origins date back to the Neolithic, but the first settlements in the area are of Thracian origin. It is well known for the Thracian Tomb of Kazhanlak, World Heritage Site by Unesco.

The Tomb of Kazanlak is part of a great necropolis. The tholos (circular building) comprises a narrow corridor and a round burial chamber with frescoes depicting funerary rites. These paintings are works of art of the hellenistic period in Bulgaria and best preserved paintings are unique worldwide. The frescoes reveal the remarkable evolution and high level of culture and pictorial art in hellenistic thrace.

- There are the original tomb and a copy. The original is not
always opened and costs 5€.
